Local Governing Body

Leafield School is supported by our Local Governing Body (LGB). Our Governors meet regularly to discuss the school’s continuing development and aim to ensure the pupils can achieve to the best of their ability. The Governors work with the School’s Senior Leadership Team and our Multi-Academy Trust – Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust (ODST).

The LGB has three core functions:

  • helping the school with its strategy;
  • holding the Executive Headteacher to account for the school’s performance; and
  • making sure the school budget is properly managed.

If you would like to contact the LGB members, you can do so either via the school office, or by emailing Sarah Harston, LGB Chair (chair@leafield.oxon.sch.uk).

Our LGB Members

Sarah Harston – LGB Chair (chair@leafield.oxon.sch.uk)

I became an LGB member at Leafield School in 2020. I live in Leafield village and my children have all attended the school. My youngest child is still a pupil.

My background is in Human Resources. In my early career, I worked as a management consultant, assisting companies with remuneration of employees. I then worked in-house for large global corporate organisations, developing reward strategies, HR policy and employee relations.

Since leaving my HR career in 2018, I have been retraining in horticulture. I now work in Garden Design.

I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to be an LGB member. I'm sure that, as a team, we will continue to help to improve an already successful school.

Term of office from 13 Jan 2024 to 12 Jan 2028

Ellie Jenkins – Vice Chair and Safeguarding lead (safeguarding@leafield.oxon.sch.uk)

I joined the LGB in 2017 when I moved to the village.

I am responsible for safeguarding at Leafield Primary School, and I have a particular interest in the Early Years.

I am a qualified teacher with lots of experience of the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. I am the Early Years lead at another local, rural primary school, which enables me to have a good insight into both the strengths and challenges of a small school.

I have loved being a part of Leafield’s journey so far and look forward to working together to make things even better for our pupils and the wider school community.

Term of office from 24 Jun 2025 to 23 Jun 2029

Jodie Clatworthy - Parent LGB Member

I have been a Parent LGB Member since Nov ’24. I am really looking forward to getting to grips with the role and supporting the school to excel.

I have 2 children – Olly is Yr 6 at Leafield and Immy attended Leafield but is currently doing her GCSE’s at Burford. I think Leafield is a wonderful school. One of the things that I really love about the school is that they work with the children to prepare them for life, not just their next academic adventure.

I am currently the Manager of Leafield Preschool so I work very closely with the Primary School to support the children to transition into Reception. I am SENCO and Designated safeguarding lead at Preschool, so I will bring knowledge of these areas with me. I hope that some of the skills I have developed as the Preschool Manager will be of use to the LGB.

Term of office from 11 Nov 2024 to 10 Nov 2028

Janey Petterson – Foundation LGB Member

Janey is a photographer and ceramicist. She designs and leads retreat days using clay as a medium to capture the essence of a chosen spiritual theme: unity, freedom and so on. She is involved with the Leafield Light Services and also worships at Burford Church. In her time, Janey has directed drama and choreographed worship dance.

At the Primary School, she leads a team of local folk acting out Bible Stories for and with the children. This is a Bible Society project and goes under the name of Open the Book. The children love it!

Term of office from 17 Sep 2024 to 16 Sep 2028

Hannah Saxel – Parent LGB Member

I was elected parent LGB member in October 2023 and am delighted to have the opportunity to help support this wonderful school.

I have worked with many small and medium-sized businesses and their owners as an accountant and business adviser for over 15 years. Now working with the board internally, my skill set includes strategic decision-making and resource management along with interpreting financial, contractual and legal documents.

I have two children who have both attended the school. My eldest attended Leafield throughout his primary school years and my youngest is in KS2.

Term of office from 14 Nov 2023 to 13 Nov 2027

Jeanette Shaw – Community LGB Member

I am a retired teacher and school leader. I spent 41 years in education, mainly in secondary schools. The last 20 years of my career was in leadership in challenging urban schools. My last paid role was that of Senior Vice Principal in a school of over 1200 students. I have also worked as a consultant, helping schools to solve entrenched problems and raise the attainment of children. I have been a Vice Chair to a large primary school in Milton Keynes. I am passionately interested in primary education, particularly in overcoming disadvantage, literacy and the development of writing.

I live locally in Charlbury. I have three daughters, one who is a Deputy Head of a primary school in Essex, and four grandchildren. I want the experience of the children at Leafield to be one that I would want for my grandchildren, one where learning is exciting and a gateway to other worlds.
